Britain's daily per-capita death rate from Covid-19 is currently around twice that of the United States and second only to Portugal. In terms of major powers the U.K., with the world's fifth-largest economy and a vast, publicly funded National Health Service, is an outlier. While Prime Minister Boris Johnson is quick to blame a new, highly transmissible variant of the virus, experts say he bears a good deal of the responsibility. |
