An ominous terror warning, Biden's climate action, undoing Trump's legacy on the bench

THE BIG STORY   A new terror advisory warns of more potential right-wing extremist attacks   Just three weeks after former president Donald Trump incited a deadly mob that attacked the US capitol, the Department of Homeland Security issued an ominous warning about further violence by domestic political extremists, noting there is still a "heightened threat environment across the United States."   The warning came in a National Terrorism Advisory System bulletin, issued by acting Secretary of Homeland Security David Pekoske. Domestic violent extremists may be emboldened by the Jan. 6 breach of the Capitol to target elected officials and government facilities, the DHS bulletin said.   The bulletin said the threat is "likely to persist over the coming weeks."   "Information suggests that some ideologically-motivated violent extremists with objections to the exercise of governmental authority and the presidential transition, as well as other perceived grievances fueled by false narratives, could continue to mobilize to incite or commit violence," the alert read. Scott Applewhite / AP STAYING ON TOP OF THIS   Biden's latest executive orders are the most aggressive moves on climate change of any president   On Wednesday, Joe Biden signed sweeping executive orders to force the federal government to plan for and respond to the urgent threat of a warming planet. Biden's orders lay out an ambitious vision to restore the US to a leadership role on climate change.   The new executive orders stop new fossil fuel leases on public lands, boost renewable energy development and conservation, as well as create new government offices and interagency groups to prioritize job creation, cleaning up pollution, and environmental justice.   It's a stark contrast to the approach taken by Trump, who used his executive power to boost oil, gas, and coal development. SNAPSHOTS   The men accused of plotting to kidnap Michigan's governor also practiced breaching the state capitol. New details have emerged as part of a guilty plea by one of the defendants, and they include the allegation that extremists also discussed the best way to attack a Secret Service convoy.   Biden was against packing the Supreme Court. A new progressive group wants to change his mind. A new coalition of liberal groups called "Unrig the Courts" is launching this week with the goal of building momentum to add seats to the Supreme Court and undo Trump's legacy on the bench.   Actor Cloris Leachman has died at age 94. Leachman was known for roles in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Malcolm in the Middle, and Young Frankenstein. Her career spanned a stunning 7 decades.   Amanda Gorman will be the first poet to ever perform during a Super Bowl. The 22-year-old, who spoke at the presidential inauguration, will honor three people who have served their communities during the coronavirus pandemic. GAMESTOP BELIEVIN'    Two Wall Street firms took huge GameStop losses after admitting defeat to Redditors   You wouldn't necessarily imagine a promising future for GameStop, the mall retailer that sells video games. But the company's current stock price does not reflect that reality at all.   The GameStop stock is at the center of a battle between investors on Reddit and big-money Wall Street firms. The battle is both a trolling effort and a serious moment.   To break it down to its simplest form: Reddit investors banded together to buy significant amounts of GameStop shares, pushing the price of the stock higher. Wall Street firms had shorted the stock, meaning bet against the stock — so every time the price goes up, they lose money.   And the price has been skyrocketing. The consequences of Redditors piling into the GameStop stock has meant a staggering price increase of 748% in just one week, screwing over major investors. Now, some big firms have taken huge losses and waved the white flag.   The whole thing also created an opportunity for some excellent memes, like this one: Twitter SLEEPWALKING TO FAME   This woman has been documenting herself sleepwalking on TikTok and it's pretty wild   The tweet that went viral is of a video showing Celina Myers marching through her living room with an armful of beverages before making her way outside and throwing the drinks onto her lawn.    According to Myers, in her dreams, she was at a pool party, and she believed her lawn was in fact a jello pool.   That one clip has been viewed 2.8 million times on Twitter, and 38 million times on TikTok.
