The U.S. sends Egypt billions in aid. Fearing 'extinction' after recent arrests, human rights activists hope Biden will use it to apply pressure.

The recent arrest of three activists was the culmination of what Egyptian human rights groups say is an "unprecedented" campaign of oppression under President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi. They are now pinning their hopes on President-elect Joe Biden to pressure Egypt, one of Washington's closest international allies and among the biggest recipients of U.S. foreign aid in the world, to change its ways.
