A watercolor from the J. Horace McFarland Collection

Collection Highlights Watercolor 3531, Ilex opaca J. Horace McFarland operated a horticultural printing business in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, from 1878 until his death in 1848. To meet his high standard for color reproduction, McFarland employed artists to paint pictures of plants growing in gardens. There are more than 8,000 of these small watercolor paintings in NAL's J. Horace McFarland Collection.
