COVID-19 Vaccine Information

In Dec. 2020, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began issuing Emergency Use Authorizations for COVID-19 vaccines. The FDA issued the EUA for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on Dec. 11, and the EUA for the Moderna vaccine on Dec. 18. HHSC will add these vaccines to the formulary for the Medicaid, Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and Healthy Texas Women (HTW) programs as a pharmacy benefit beginning Dec. 28. VDP will back-date the effective date of formulary coverage to Dec. 11, meaning pharmacy claims with dates of service starting Dec. 11 are allowed starting Dec. 28.

Information about the DSHS Immunization Program Portal, how individuals can apply for a 10-digit National Provider Identifier, and claim processing instructions are available on the Texas Vendor Drug Program website.
