Argentina: Argentina Introduces Export Tax Compensation Program for Small Farmers

On November 2, 2020, Argentina authorized a payment scheme to compensate small and midsize farmers for a portion of their export taxes paid on soybeans. Payments are based upon sales recorded between February 1 and December 31, 2020 and smaller farms and farms located outside of the core growing region receive a more generous reimbursement rate. Due to economic uncertainty, Argentine farmers are currently sitting on record levels of soybean stocks. This measure is intended to incentivize selling for the next several months among smaller scale farmers, a sector targeted for assistance by the Fernandez government.

South Africa: Fresh Deciduous Fruit Annual

The production of apples, pears and table grapes is forecast to increase marginally in the 2020/21 Marketing Year (MY), based on increases in area planted, normal weather conditions, improvement in yields and available irrigation water following improved 2020 winter rainfall. COVID-19 is expected to have minimal impact to production and exports in the 2020/21 MY. South Africa is self-sufficient and only imports small quantities of deciduous fruits to fulfill niche markets or to satisfy demand during the off-season when supply is limited. Due to phytosanitary restrictions, the United States only has limited market access to export apples from areas that are free of Rhagoletis pomonella (apple maggot). Negotiations are on-going to expand this market access to include areas regulated for apple maggot in the United States.

Thailand: Rice Price - Weekly

Rice export prices remain unchanged.

Turkey: Fresh Deciduous Fruit Annual

In marketing year (MY) 2020/21, Turkey's total apple crop is expected to increase to 4.3 million metric tons (MMT) and the pear crop to 550,000 MT, according to the Turkish Statistics Institute. The Turkey table grape production forecast for MY 2020/21 is 2 MMT. Fresh fruit exporters are hopeful for the new marketing year with a weak Turkish Lira supporting additional exports.

Ukraine: Ukraine's MRLs for Veterinary Drugs

Ukraine adopted several maximum residue levels (MRLs) for veterinary drugs, coccidiostats and histomonostats in food products of animal origin. Ukraine also adopted a list of drugs residues that are not allowed in food products.
