A Covid-19 vaccine is on track to roll out in December. Here's how that would work.

Drugmakers Pfizer and Moderna said they expect to submit their applications for emergency use authorization to the Food and Drug Administration within days and weeks, respectively. The unprecedented speed with which manufacturers and regulators have moved this year, combined with strong preliminary results, has paved the way for some people to start receiving shots by the end of December. 

But there is a series of steps that need to be completed before a vaccine is finally released to the public. Here's what lies ahead.
