The Resident Legal Advisor (RLA) will work under the auspices of the United States Embassy in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, representing the Department of Justice and OPDAT in the implementation of the OPDAT-Bosnia and Herzegovina justice sector assistance program. The RLA will develop capacity building programs and mentor justice sector personnel, with a focus on strengthening investigative, prosecutorial, and judicial capacity to counter complex crimes such as organized crime, corruption, terrorism, and trafficking in persons. The RLA will work closely with the Bosnian criminal justice institutions, U.S. Embassy personnel, and other international donors in order to deliver assistance programs. The RLA will work on promoting interagency coordination and communication among those institutions participating in rule of law development efforts. The RLA will be expected to provide analysis of and advice on legislation relating to corruption and financial crimes, including the criminal code, criminal procedure code, and other laws and regulations, with the goal of strengthening compliance with international standards and norms. The position will also involve coordination with other OPDAT assistance programs in the region.
