Struck by grief: A Las Vegas family struggles to move forward after mother's Covid-19 death

When Covid-19 spread through Las Vegas, it upended nearly every aspect of the León family's lives — delaying a wedding, disrupting jobs and leaving them with months of lingering symptoms. But the biggest loss by far was the family's matriarch, Petronila Maria León, 75, a Cuban immigrant whose home was filled with salsa music and who loved giving her children advice and celebrating their birthdays.

Six months after her death, grief remains a daily fact of life for León's family, and normalcy still feels out of reach.
