Minneapolis, a diverse and relatively liberal city, has found itself with a dire homelessness problem fed by racial inequality, skyrocketing housing prices and stagnating wages. The pandemic now fuels those longstanding problems, resulting in hundreds of people living in homeless encampments in the city's parks. But winter is fast on its way and with it come subzero temperatures and deep snow. "What's happening in Minneapolis and in our community, it's a microcosm of what's happening across the country. We're just a snapshot," an advocate said. "The same stress factors that are showing up here are showing up across the country." |
