BREAKING: The U.N. World Food Programme has won the 2020 Nobel peace prize for working to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict

The Nobel Committee said that in awarding the prize to the World Food Programme it wanted to "turn the eyes of the world towards the millions of people who suffer from or face the threat of hunger."

"In the face of the pandemic, the World Food Programme has demonstrated an impressive ability to intensify its efforts," said Berit Reiss-Andersen, the chair of the Nobel Committee.
