Democrats are leading in the polls. That means it's time for them to panic. 

Democrats are nothing if not a self-doubting bunch, and the 2016 election left such a psychic scar that many in the party are now conditioned to think the worst is about to happen.

Former Obama campaign manager David Plouffe famously called the phenomenon "bed-wetting," and experts are seeing it manifest in this election cycle despite Joe Biden's 11-point lead in some national polls. "Democrats under Trump have a bad case of Charlie Brown syndrome: They can't stop being afraid that the ball is going to get yanked out from under them," one former Democratic adviser said.
