Wooden huts, $50,000 and edible plants: Inside one school's unorthodox reopening plan

At the Detroit Waldorf School, the plan to build 14 outdoor classrooms from cedar wood went from a wild idea to breaking ground in a matter of weeks. The private school's parents and teachers are among people across the country betting that the lower risk of COVID-19 transmission outside will make it safer for students to get face-to-face instruction.

While the school won't hold classes exclusively outside, "we'll have more freedom," said Ben Linstrom, a teacher.
