With out-of-work actors unable to afford NYC, will the curtain fall on Broadway for good?

After the curtain fell on Broadway in March, performers have been left wondering if their professional livelihoods will ever be what they once were. New York's multibillion-dollar industry relies on actors, directors, costume designers and countless behind-the-scenes crew, many of whom have had to turn to the $600 weekly federal stimulus benefit that has recently expired.

Performers who spent years trying to get on stage are now hastily patching together backup plans and considering leaving the city permanently. "You can't feed a family off a wish and a promise," one actor said.
