Aug 31, 2020 Portland mayor says Trump 'created the hate' that led to deadly clash Portland, Oregon, Mayor Ted Wheeler had a strong message for President Donald Trump after a man was shot and killed in Portland amid clashes between Black Lives Matter protesters and a pro-Trump caravan on Saturday. "Do you seriously wonder, Mr. President, why this is the first time in decades that America has seen this level of violence?" Wheeler said at a news conference on Sunday. "It's you who have created the hate and the division." Trump responded by calling the mayor a "joke."
