Students of color are more likely to take on student debt and disproportionately struggle to pay it back at higher rates than their white counterparts, research released Monday suggests. Racist and discriminatory policies from the time of slavery to more recent decades have prevented Black and Latino families from building generational wealth, economic scholars have found. And a lack of educational opportunities along with wage disparities based on race have exacerbated inequity in education loan debt. |
