Six months into the pandemic, health experts confront a new fear: two virus outbreaks

On Monday, the World Health Organization marked a grim anniversary — a half-year since a cluster of coronavirus cases in Wuhan, China, was first reported — with a warning that the pandemic is "actually speeding up."

The aggressive spread of the virus in the U.S., particularly in the Southern and Western states, has many health care workers demoralized and looking ahead to the fall with a worrying level of uncertainty of how the coming flu season will affect the pandemic. Experts say the U.S. health care system isn't prepared for a simultaneous influx.
