What coronavirus antibody testing can and can't tell us

Results from antibody testing studies for the coronavirus are starting to paint a picture of the scope of the disease it causes in parts of the U.S.

If a person has a positive test for COVID-19 antibodies, it means that person has been infected with the virus at some point in the past. However, experts caution that a positive antibody test doesn't necessarily mean a person is immune and that it could take a year or more to determine how long immunity lasts.
