The position is located in the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA), Freedom of Information and Privacy Act (FOIA/PA) Staff and supervises a branch of staff and personally performs legal review and oversight of FOIA/PA functions. Duties of the position include providing legal guidance and analytical expertise on FOIA/PA matters to EOUSA staff and the United States Attorneys' Office (USAO) community. Assignments include:
-Supervise staff including planning work to be accomplished setting and adjusting short-term priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work.
-Provide legal review and oversight of the processing of records by FOIA staff.
-Identify, research, analyze and prepare written reports and assists on various FOIA/PA litigation and classified information issues.
-Conduct legal research services on FOIA/PA processing procedures and litigation.
-Assist in cases in which denial of information is appealed to the agency's Office of Information and Privacy and provide advice to the Department attorneys in the analyses and justification of reasons for actions taken.
-Provide legal advice and opinions to United States Attorneys and their staff on the various statutes, regulations and cases dealing with disclosure of records and advise USAO personnel on permissible and impermissible disclosures of records pursuant to Federal statutes and regulations.
-Participate in the development of FOIA/PA course material and training lectures of EOUSA and USAO attorneys and staff.
-Provide technical support regarding FOIA/PA requests, USAO electronic records, and record-keeping system and coordinate responses for such records with EOUSA components and USAO staff.
