An appointment as an Assistant United States Attorney with the U.S. Attorney's Office offers unique and challenging experiences for highly motivated attorneys seeking to represent the interests of the United States in a wide variety of federal litigation. This position is in the Asset Forfeiture Unit of the Criminal Division. The applicant selected for this position will work with Criminal Division Assistant United States Attorneys on forfeiture-related issues in criminal prosecutions and have overall responsibility for all issues involving asset forfeiture, including investigations, seizures, restraint of assets, transferring title to the United States, litigating third party claims, and final disposition of assets. The Asset Forfeiture Unit also handles all civil forfeiture matters in the District. Day-to-day responsibilities may include working with other Assistant United States Attorneys and legal support staff in the Criminal Division, law enforcement agents, research and writing, negotiating case resolutions, representation of the United States in federal court, and other litigation related duties. The Assistant United States Attorney also will work with Financial Litigation Unit to provide expert advice on restitution and enforcement remedies for cases involving victims.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
