Japan: Dairy Certificate Updated to Satisfy New Food Safety Law

Beginning March 1, 2020, USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service will endorse a new version of the veterinary certificate for dairy products exported to Japan. The certificate has been updated to satisfy a new requirement under Japan's Food Sanitation Law which will enter into force on June 1, 2020. Japanese authorities will accept both the previous and new versions of the certificate until May 31, 2020.

Japan: Japan 231st Food Safety Group

On February, 2027, Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare announced revisions to Japan's maximum residue levels for eight agricultural chemicals (Carbosulfan, Carbofuran, Benfuracarb, Cyclaniliprole, Diquat, Tebuconazole, Broflanilide, and Benzpyrimozan). Interested U.S. parties are encouraged to submit their comments to PlantDivision@usda.gov by March 9, 2020. Japan will subsequently notify these revisions to the World Trade Organization, which will provide another opportunity to comment.

Kazakhstan: Grain and Feed Update

FAS/Nur-Sultan estimates MY 2020/2021 wheat production in Kazakhstan at 12 million metric tons (MMT), only 0.5 MMT higher than MY 2019/2020. Post estimates wheat production for MY 2019/2020 at 11.5 MMT, 2.4 MMT lower than estimated for MY 2018/2019, as dry summer and rains during harvesting time severely impacted production. FAS/Nur-Sultan forecasts Kazakhstani barley production in MY 2019/2020 at 3.8 MMT, just slightly higher than last year. Exporters have expressed concern about wheat and barley quality for the current season.

Tunisia: Oilseeds and Products Annual

Post forecasts Tunisia's MY 2020/21 soybean imports to reach 720,000 MT, compared to 680,000 MT in MY 2019/20, while at the same time, olive oil exports are forecast to reach 130,000 MT in MY 2020/21, compared to 260,000 MT in MY 2019/20.
