CMS Updates the CMS Program Statistics with 2018 Data

Connecting People With Data Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) updated the CMS Program Statistics with data for 2018. The CMS Program Statistics presents detailed summary statistics on Medicare populations, utilization, and expenditures, as well as counts for Medicare-certified institutional and non-institutional providers. Today's release also includes several enhancements to the CMS Program Statistics, including New tables presenting Medicare Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) Hospital and Medicare Outpatient Critical Access Hospital (CAH) emergency room visits and observation stays. A new table showing utilization and expenditure data for special-category hospitals (i.e., Cancer Hospitals, Disproportionate Share Hospitals, Medicare Dependent Hospitals, and Sole Community Hospitals). The addition of the count of hospital discharges that began with an emergency room visit to the existing Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) short-stay hospital tables.
