A doctor said she had extensive training in diagnosing child abuse. Her résumé shows otherwise.

Dr. Elizabeth Woods is regarded as one of Washington state's top experts in identifying subtle signs of child abuse. Her opinions have driven decisions about whether to remove children from parents — even in the face of contradictory evidence. But an investigation by NBC News and KING 5 (KING-TV) found that Woods lacks key medical training for assessing potential abuse cases.

"I think just as a doctor, she should be held to a higher standard," said Megan Carter, who temporarily lost custody of her two children in 2018 based on a report by Woods that a judge later said was "without supporting factual basis." "People should be able to expect that she tell the truth. And she just didn't."
