Three defendants remain at large. Baton Rouge Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Illegally Possessing a Firearm 01/14/2020 12:00 AM EST United States Attorney Brandon J. Fremin announced that Chief Judge Shelly D. Dick sentenced Tevontae Harris, age 25, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to 97 months in federal prison to run consecutive with his other pending state charges, following his conviction of possessing a firearm by a convicted felon. Former Stony Brook University Professor Pleads Guilty to Stealing Cancer Research Funds 01/14/2020 12:00 AM EST Earlier today, in federal court in Central Islip, Geoffrey Girnun, a former Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Director of Cancer Metabolomics at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University (SBU), pleaded guilty to theft of government funds from cancer-related research grants issued by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The plea proceeding was held before United States District Judge Denis R. Hurley. Girnun resigned his position at SBU in December 2019.
