The Trump administration announced Thursday that it would take its largest step yet to overhaul Medicaid by allowing states to take block grants. That would cap the cash they receive from the federal government to a lump sum based on enrollment or a number negotiated with the agency overseeing the program. This would likely be attractive to Republican states that want to limit spending, maintain greater flexibility and limit the size of the overall program. Critics, however, maintain that it could lead to limited benefits, decreased enrollment numbers and limit access to prescription drugs. |
