BREAKING: U.S. to send 3,000 troops to Middle East after embassy attack, Soleimani killing

The United States is sending around 3,000 more soldiers to the Middle East after thousands of people stormed the compound of the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, officials told NBC News on Friday.

The deployment also follows the death on Thursday of top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, whose killing by a U.S. airstrike prompted Iran to vow "harsh retaliation," though officials said the deployment was not in response to the attack on Soleimani.
