Jan 22, 2020 BREAKING: Coronavirus death toll rises to 17 in China with more than 500 infected across country The death toll in China from a new flu-like coronavirus rose to 17 on Wednesday, Chinese state media reported, with some 544 people infected across the country. Authorities have stepped up efforts to control the outbreak by discouraging public gatherings in central Hubei province, where the virus is believed to have originated. The World Health Organization is due to hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday to determine whether the outbreak of the new coronavirus constitutes a global health emergency.
