This report presents official estimates of nonfatal criminal victimization reported and not reported to police from BJS's National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). The report is the 52nd in a series that began in 1973 and includes statistics on nonfatal violent crimes (rape or sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, and simple assault) and property crimes (burglary or trespassing, motor vehicle theft, and other types of household theft). The report also describes characteristics of crimes and victims. BJS conducted a multiyear effort to improve the efficiency, reliability, and utility of the NCVS and redesigned the entire survey instrument. In 2024, BJS coordinated with the U.S. Census Bureau, the NCVS data collection agent, to administer the legacy instrument and redesigned instrument through a split-sample design. This report focuses on statistics that were produced with data collected from the 2024 legacy instrument. Concurrently, BJS updated estimates of criminal victimization through the NCVS Dashboard (N-DASH), an interactive online data visualization dashboard and released NCVS Select datasets through the NCVS Application Program Interface (API). In addition, BJS released a series of infographics highlighting key findings from the 2024 legacy NCVS. Government Secures Forfeiture of Illegally Smuggled Ancient Egyptian Artifacts

View as a webpage / Share   FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 29, 2025 Kevin Nash (410) 209-4946 USAMD.Press@usdoj.gov​​​​   GOVERNMENT SECURES FORFEITURE OF ILLEGALLY SMUGGLED ANCIENT EGYPTIAN ARTIFACTS The Old Kingdom Limestone Funerary Statue, appraised at approximately $6 million, is one of 14 ancient Egyptian artifacts that was illegally smuggled into the United States. Baltimore, Maryland – The United States government secured a default judgment in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, completing the forfeiture of 14 ancient Egyptian artifacts illegally smuggled into the United States. Kelly O. Hayes, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, announced the judgment with Acting Special Agent in Charge Evan Campanella, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) – Baltimore, and Executive Director Stephen Maloney, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) National Targeting Center. The smuggled artifacts include amulets, stone figurines, a vase, and an "Old Kingdom Limestone Funerary Statue."  The Funerary Statue alone is appraised at approximately $6 million U.S. Dollars. It likely originated from an archaeological site in Saqqara or Giza, which are royal cemeteries near the ancient city of Memphis, located in present-day Egypt. CBP officers discovered and seized these ancient artifacts at several international airports in the U.S., where they were in transit from overseas shippers destined for private collectors. As alleged in the government's complaint, between August 2020, and April 2021, CBP identified the artifacts while inspecting numerous parcels from overseas shippers transiting through airports in Anchorage, Alaska, Cincinnati, Ohio, and New York City. The ultimate destination for at least one of these shipments was a private collector in Edgewater, Maryland.  Shipping paperwork for each parcel that housed artifacts contained deceptive and inaccurate descriptions of their contents, including "home décor," "stone garden statue," or "decoration," and did not state the true origin or value of the ancient artifacts.  Historians and antique appraisers, working with CBP, later confirmed the true nature of each ancient Egyptian artifact. In similar cases, the Justice Department has worked through appropriate channels to return smuggled ancient artifacts to their rightful owners – the people of the country of origin. "This litigation highlights one of the benefits of civil asset forfeiture and is an important milestone toward eliminating smuggled cultural property from the U.S. art market," Hayes said. "This office is committed to combating the black-market sale of cultural property and the smuggling of ancient artifacts, and will use all available tools, including asset forfeiture, to disrupt illicit trade in antiquities."  "These ancient artifacts are more than just relics of the past; they are irreplaceable pieces of global cultural heritage that tell the story of human civilization," Campanella said. "The deceptive practices used to smuggle these treasures into the United States not only violate our import laws but also undermine efforts to preserve and protect the integrity of cultural history. HSI remains steadfast in its commitment to working alongside our partners to ensure that those who seek to profit from the exploitation of cultural heritage are held accountable. By recovering these artifacts, we've helped preserve priceless pieces of history and reaffirmed our commitment to protecting the world's shared heritage for generations to come." "This case exemplifies the fine work of the women and men of U.S. Customs and Border Protection and our National Targeting Center in identifying and dismantling illicit networks that exploit global trade routes," Maloney said. "The recovery of this ancient Egyptian statue, valued at $6 million, underscores CBP's commitment to protecting cultural heritage and, working collaboratively with our partners, to identify those who seek to profit from theft and smuggling." GAIN Reports from September 25-26, 2025

The following GAIN reports were released on September 25-26, 2025. _______     China: Oilseeds and Products Update Post raises its forecast for marketing year 25/26 soybean production slightly to 19.9 million metric tons on generally favorable weather conditions in northern China and slightly higher planted area. As of September 11, China had not made purchases of new crop U.S. soybeans and has continued to rely on South American origins. Post lowers its forecast for rapeseed imports based on anti-dumping duties on Canadian canola. Palm oil imports are also reduced as high prices have made palm oil less competitive in China's flagging edible oil market.   Honduras: FAIRS Export Certificate Report Annual The National Plant, Animal Health and Food Safety Service (SENASA) is the regulatory agency in Honduras that is responsible for the inspection of all agricultural products that enter the country. The Sanitary Regulation Agency (Agencia de Regulacion Sanitaria -ARSA) oversees product registration, authorizations for import of raw materials, and additives for food processing, surveillance and inspection of food products approved for sale in the retail or wholesale market in Honduras. The certificates requested by these two agencies are described in this report along with recent changes to rules for license permits, sanitary authorizations and import permits.   India: Retail Foods Annual This report provides an in-depth analysis of India's rapidly growing food retail industry. It highlights import trends, with the U.S. leading as a supplier of consumer-oriented food products, and explores opportunities in emerging segments like online grocery, frozen food, premium chocolates, healthy snacks, and functional drinks. The report also addresses challenges such as high tariffs, infrastructure limitations, and regulatory barriers, while offering insights for market entry and competition in India's food sector.   Israel: Overview of Israeli Soybean Market - 2025 FAS/Tel Aviv (Post) forecasts Israel's soybean imports in marketing year (MY) 2025/26 (October- September) to decrease slightly from the previous marketing year due to a decline in demand. Currently, almost no soybeans are imported from the United States, as 70 percent originate from Brazil. Soybean meal is used by the Israeli feed industry as a major source of protein, most of which comes from Argentina. Soybean oil consumption in MY 2025/26 is forecasted at 56 thousand metric tons (TMT), of which half will be imported.   Turkey: Oilseeds and Products Update Turkiye's MY 2025/26 sunflowerseed crop is suffering from extreme drought and production levels are forecast to fall more than 10 percent from last year. To compensate for this expected decline, sunflower seed and oil imports are forecast higher. FinCEN Seeks Comments on Proposed Survey of the Costs of AML/CFT Compliance

The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) invites the general public and other Federal agencies to comment on a proposed Survey of the Costs of Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Compliance. The proposed survey seeks to gather information on the direct compliance costs incurred by non-bank financial institutions (such as casinos and card clubs; money services businesses; insurance companies; dealers in precious metals, precious stones, or jewels; operators of credit card systems; and loan or finance companies) with AML/CFT compliance requirements and, to the extent these expenses overlap with those of other activities (such as fraud monitoring), the amount attributable to AML/CFT compliance. Responses will aid in understanding the financial impact of these regulations and will be used to shape deregulatory proposals consistent with the Executive Orders of the Trump Administration. Responses will not be used for supervisory or enforcement purposes. Written comments are welcome and must be received on or before December 1, 2025.
