Funding Opportunity Announcement to Support Policy Development for Youth with Disabilities

The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy announced the availability of more than $69 million for four, five-year cooperative agreements to help youth and young adults with disabilities connect with good jobs. Information for the Equitable Transition Models (ETM) Demonstration Grants Project can be found via ODEP's news release and on Grants.Gov.

EARN's Updated Workplace Mental Health Toolkit

The Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion (EARN) released a newly revamped Workplace Mental Health Toolkit. The updated resource includes practical guidance and research-based insights to help employers create supportive work cultures for all employees. The user-friendly toolkit now includes information to address issues stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, including Long COVID's impact on mental health and strategies to ensure employers are supporting the mental health needs of workers from historically marginalized communities. At the core of the guide are the "4 A's of a Mental Health-Friendly Workplace: Awareness, Accommodations, Assistance, and Access." Explore the toolkit to find links to helpful resources, case studies, data and actionable steps employers can take to foster a mentally healthy workplace.

Employment and Education Services for Young Adults with Mental Health Conditions

Read the recently released issue brief from ODEP's Advancing State Policy Integration for Recovery and Employment (ASPIRE) initiative titled "Employment and Education Services for Young Adults with Mental Health Conditions." The brief summarizes findings from a systematic review of seven randomized controlled trials showing substantially better employment outcomes for young adults with mental health conditions receiving Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model of supported employment compared to those receiving standard employment services. The brief suggests several specific strategies for IPS teams working with this population.

Recording Now Available: Partnerships to Support Successful Customized Employment

On July 25, ODEP's National Center on Leadership for the Employment and Economic Advancement of People with Disabilities (LEAD Center) held the webinar "Partnerships to Support Successful Customized Employment (CE)." This informative webinar shared how Oregon and the District of Columbia have implemented CE through partnerships involving schools, vocational rehabilitation, the workforce system, community employment providers and more. This webinar also explored applications of Guided Group Discovery, adapted for different populations, as a first step in the CE process.
