Citing a diplomatic agreement reached during the World Economic Forum at Davos, the Trump Administration announced it is halting the implementation of a new round of tariffs for Europe, which it had been planning due to a dispute over Greenland. Despite the announcement, the European Parliament still suspended their last trade agreement with the U.S., and Denmark continued to reject any possibility of handing Greenland over to the United States. President Trump later posted on social media that 'We have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region,' though no specific details were provided. Why it Matters The sudden announcement of a suspension of tariffs over the Greenland dispute marks a dramatic shift from the Trump Administration's rhetoric from the past few weeks.
