Treasury Secretary Bessent Is Betting Big on Gold

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is the man who oversees America’s $37 trillion debt load.  No one has more insight into what’s happening with the US dollar… mounting U.S. debt… of the likely changes coming to the US monetary system. That’s why I believe Buffett is preparing to buy the one gold miner large enough to protect his cash. And here’s the kicker… This large-cap miner is still trading at a 40% discount to its free cash flow. What’s more, Trump recently tapped the CEO of this mining powerhouse to help lead America’s mining revival! Add it all up and here’s what you get: The US Treasury Secretary is positioned for a major move in gold… and move that’s sure to come when he authorizes all the money required to finance more deficit spending. The world’s greatest investor needs a major gold position to protect his $330 billion cash pile… and there’s only one company big enough to do it. Editor's note: On August 5, junior analyst Ethan Goldman shared all the details about an upcoming video game... Game maker Electronic Arts (EA) plans to release Battlefield 6 in October. And after two underwhelming installments in the franchise, fans hope the new game will be a big hit. Last weekend, Electronic Arts started an "open beta test" of Battlefield 6. A record number of folks logged on to play in the first weekend of testing. (Users can also play this coming weekend.) So it's clear that interest in the new game remains high. But as Ethan explains in today's essay, this topic isn't just about the Battlefield 6 launch... This 'Service' Is Driving Electronic Arts' Stock By Ethan Goldman, junior analyst, Chaikin Analytics No one knew how Electronic Arts' open beta test of Battlefield 6 would go... In 2021, Battlefield 2042 was supposed to provide a fresh take on the series. But instead, the most recent game in the military first-person shooter franchise failed miserably... Folks who took part in Battlefield 2042's beta test reported all sorts of gameplay issues. They hated the game's design. And some described the voice lines as "cringe-worthy." Battlefield 2042 sales started strong. But ultimately, the game didn't live up to the hype. In the third quarter of 2022, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson acknowledged the company's trouble with Battlefield 2042. He said the game "did not meet expectations." Despite this troubled past, interested gamers couldn't wait for Battlefield 6... More than 520,000 players accessed the beta test at the same time on the Steam gaming platform. The successful first weekend rocketed Battlefield 6 past the player-count record of rival Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty. The buzz translated into a quick gain for Electronic Arts' stock... The company revealed the game's official multiplayer trailer on July 31. That day, Electronic Arts closed at $152.49 per share. Today, it's at an all-time high of more than $178 per share. It's up about 17% in two weeks. That's a great return in a short span. But the full version of Battlefield 6 won't come out for another two months. And if the game doesn't deliver as hardcore fans hope, Electronic Arts' stock could suffer. Electronic Arts will do whatever it can to make sure this game is a hit for years to come. And in the world of modern gaming, most games follow the same blueprint to success... Notably, only about 17% of Electronic Arts' first-quarter revenue came from "full game" sales. The other 83% came from what the company calls "live services and other" sales. With live-service games, developers charge a fee for content updates on a revolving basis. Players buy a "base" game at a fixed, one-time price. Then, developers release periodic updates or add-on incentives that players can choose to buy. In other words... it's all about paying as you play. Many gamers claim to dislike this concept. But Electronic Arts' revenue shows otherwise... Players open their wallets up to pay for added content far more than the games themselves. They spent more than $1.3 billion on Electronic Arts' live services in the first quarter alone. Battlefield 6's Success Isn't Just About Game Sales Battlefield 6 is Electronic Arts' latest live-service game... The company knows that it needs to extend the lifetime of the game as long as it can. And to do that, it must make the live services worth buying for gamers. The base product of Call of Duty's live service sells for 1,100 "COD points" per season. That works out to be about $12 in real money. Call of Duty also offers a "Blackcell" version for more serious gamers. It costs roughly $30 per month. Electronic Arts hasn't shared any information on its live-service content for Battlefield 6. The base game will cost $70. And a special preorder edition is $100. The Power Gauge still rates Electronic Arts as "bullish" overall today. That tells us our system is optimistic about the company's future. But Electronic Arts' long-term outlook isn't just about Battlefield 6's full-game sales. It will depend on the live-service sales. If Battlefield 6's live-service sales are strong, Electronic Arts' stock will likely go up in the months ahead. If they're not, the stock will likely fall. And of course, we'll keep watching the Power Gauge for any clues. Highlights are below. PPI for final demand advances 0.9% in July; services rise 1.1%, goods increase 0.7% 08/14/2025 The Producer Price Index for final demand rose 0.9 percent in July. Prices for final demand services advanced 1.1 percent, and the index for final demand goods increased 0.7 percent.
