| October 7, 2022 NDEAM 2022 Kicks Off Across the Nation National Disability Employment Awareness Month 2022 kicked off this week, with employers, educators, services professionals, advocacy organizations and others implementing a wide variety of events across the nation. To start the annual campaign, President Biden issued an official proclamation honoring the contributions of workers with disabilities and reaffirming his Administration's commitment to ensuring equal opportunity for all people to participate in and contribute to America's workforce and economy. ODEP also published a blog post with brief video highlighting this year's theme, "Disability: Part of the Equity Equation," as well as resources available to assist in planning observances. White House Releases Blueprint for a "Bill of Rights" on AI The Biden-Harris Administration's Office of Science and Technology Policy recently released a Blueprint for a "Bill of Rights" to help guide the design, development, and deployment of artificial intelligence and other automated systems so that they protect the rights of the American public. Among other priorities, the Blueprint highlights federal efforts to protect workers with disabilities. This includes the ODEP-led Partnership on Employment & Accessible Technology, which has created the AI & Disability Inclusion Toolkit and the Equitable AI Playbook. White House Summit on Indoor Air Quality On Tuesday, October 11 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. ET, a White House Summit on Indoor Air Quality will take place, and members of the public are invited to join via livestream. This summit will focus on improving indoor air quality as a means to preventing infectious diseases and share best practices from leaders on this issue in the public and private sectors. NDEAM Employer Chat on Workplace Mental Health and Well-Being Join the U.S. Department of Labor for an employer discussion on workplace mental health and well-being. In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Labor Secretary Marty Walsh and Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy Taryn Williams will be joined by corporate, disability advocacy, and labor employers recognized for their innovative approaches to fostering supportive, mental health-friendly workplaces. New PIA Energy Efficiency One Pager and Centers of Excellence Page The Partnership on Inclusive Apprenticeship has just released a one-pager titled "The Energy Efficiency Workforce: The driving force of clean energy employment" which educates workforce development specialists, employers in the energy efficiency field, and career seekers about how clean energy jobs help improve access to the workforce for people with disabilities. PIA also has a new page on their site that provides quick links to the four Registered Apprenticeship Technical Assistance Centers of Excellence websites. The Centers of Excellence will provide technical assistance to employers and industry to build out model-registered apprenticeship programs across a range of industries and jobs, including those in America's critical supply chains. Alaska Releases Report on Advancing Employment of People with Disabilities The Alaska Work Matters Task Force published its final report last week with recommendations for policies, practices and procedures to expand and improve employment opportunities and outcomes for people with disabilities. The results were shared during the "Living, Working, and Playing Towards Independence Conference" in Anchorage, Alaska, which featured a presentation from the State Exchange on Employment & Disability on "Work Matters and the Value of Work." SEED provided subject matter experts, policy options and state examples to help support the Alaska Work Matters Task Force, which were informed by SEED's "Work Matters: A Framework for States on Workforce Development for People with Disabilities." Future Ready Oregon Initiative Aims at Supporting Individuals with Disabilities The Council of State Governments, in collaboration with the State Exchange on Employment & Disability, published a new blog, "Oregon Combines General Funds and ARPA Funds to Support People with Disabilities: The Future Ready Oregon Initiative." The blog explores the state's Future Ready Oregon initiative, which supports investments aimed at advancing an equitable workforce system that better serves people of color, people with disabilities, people with low incomes, rural Oregonians and other underserved populations. This past June, Oregon participated in SEED and CSG's State Exchange on Disability Employment, which equipped the state with policy assistance and other resources to further disability-inclusive policies in Oregon and resulted in the development of a state-wide action plan.
