Climate Change webinar June 2022

Climate change threatens health through a range of pathways including the effects of heat and extreme events, increased air pollution, changes in infectious disease transmission, undernutrition, increasing poverty and population displacement, but there are still important gaps in our understanding of the impacts. The development and implementation of effective adaptation and mitigation strategies are essential to reduce the risks to health. The presentation will give an overview of the research challenges and opportunities for generating evidence for effective action.

Press This “Refresh Button” for Instant Cash Every Month

Hi. My name is Keith Kaplan. Since 2004, I've been building sophisticated computer software with a single goal in mind: make money.

But after years of helping my Fortune 500 clients get rich, I was burnt out. So I quit, and applied my engineering skills to a specific corner of the stock market … where you could potentially generate instant cash every time you trade.

My technique is different. But it's surprisingly easy to get started. And I've used it personally, in my own family's portfolio, to make thousands of dollars in extra income — WITHOUT losing sleep at night.

After 20 years as a computer engineer, this is my #1 proudest creation. A "done-for-you system" that can let you pull instant cash out of three stocks every month… all year long.

I've even filmed a short video "demo" for folks who are interested in learning how this trade works. Click the button below to watch it now…

PPA-2

WASHINGTON, June 13, 2022 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) invites stakeholders to submit project suggestions for fiscal year (FY) 2023 Plant Protection Act Section 7721 (PPA 7721) funding. The open period for submitting suggestions for Plant Pest and Disease Management and Disaster Prevention Program funding runs from June 13 through Aug. 1, 2022. APHIS will provide $75 million in plant protection funding for these projects, including at least $7.5 million for projects under the National Clean Plant Network (NCPN).

Under the PPA 7721's Plant Pest and Disease Management and Disaster Prevention Program APHIS provides funding to its partners to help them prevent, detect, and mitigate invasive plant pests and diseases. APHIS, along with other governmental and non-governmental stakeholders, industry organizations, the National Plant Board, State departments of agriculture, and Tribal organizations developed the FY 2023 Implementation Plan. The plan outlines six strategic goal areas for funding projects:

  1. Enhancing plant pest/disease analysis and survey;
  2. targeting domestic inspection activities at vulnerable points in the safeguarding continuum;
  3. enhancing and strengthening pest identification and technology;
  4. safeguarding nursery production;
  5. conducting targeted outreach and education; and
  6. enhancing mitigation and rapid response capabilities.

Those interested in submitting projects should visit www.aphis.usda.gov/ppa-projects to get resources and guidance, including the FY 2023 Implementation Plan, templates, help session webinar schedule, frequently asked questions, and more.

The FY 2023 Implementation Plan also describes priorities for projects supporting PPA 7721's National Clean Plant Network (NCPN). The NCPN is a network of clean plant centers for diagnostic and pathogen elimination services to produce clean propagative plant material and maintain blocks of pathogen-tested plant material in sites throughout the United States. NCPN program priorities include:

  • Promoting the introduction, diagnosis, treatment, establishment and release of clean plant materials for commercial development;
  • optimizing the implementation of new methods and best practices while increasing the awareness of the importance, availability, and use of clean plants; and
  • developing partnerships with university extension offices, state departments of agriculture, and other entities to interact with commercial nurseries, industry associations and producers.

The open period to apply for NCPN program funding runs from June 13 through Sept. 2, 2022. Funding is available for land-grant universities, non-land-grant colleges of agriculture, State agricultural experiment stations, State and Federal agencies, and non- governmental organizations. Proposals focused on specialty crops have funding priority. Visit www.aphis.usda.gov/ppa-projects to learn more about the NCPN program.

Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging planning listening sessions around the state

Next meeting is Friday, June 17 in Huron County

LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging is seeking input from the public at its listening session in Huron County on Friday, June 17.

Dates and details for other sessions will be announced at later dates in Rochester and Manistee. The commission earlier this year made visits to Grand Rapids and Lansing.

The commission, a 15-member governor-appointed body, advises the governor, Legislature and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) on matters relating to policies and programs for older adults in Michigan.

Each year the Commission on Services to the Aging hosts listening sessions in different areas of the state to give older adults the opportunity to share feedback about issues impacting their lives.

On June 17, the public is welcome to attend the commission's monthly business meeting at 9 a.m. at the Huron County Senior Center, 150 Nugent St., in Bad Axe. The listening session/public hearing will begin at 1 p.m. Anyone wishing to address the commission will be asked to register upon arrival. Each speaker is asked to limit comments to three to five minutes.

"MDHHS and the commission are dedicated to helping older adults live in the setting of their choice while complementing the care provided by their family and friends. It is critical to hear what types of services older adults and their loved ones believe are important to them," said Scott Wamsley, director of the MDHHS Bureau of Aging, Community Living and Supports.

Anyone needing accommodations to attend may contact Kelly Cooper at 517-214-1618 or CooperK6@michigan.gov.
