(William Luther/The San Antonio Express-News via AP) At least 19 children and 2 teachers were killed Tuesday when a gunman opened fire in a Texas elementary school, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The suspected shooter, who might have had a handgun and a rifle, was also killed when law enforcement confronted him at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, about 83 miles west of San Antonio, Gov. Greg Abbott said at a news conference. Multiple survivors — the exact number was unknown — were being treated at regional hospitals. - President Joe Biden delivered emotional remarks from the White House, calling on Congress to take up gun legislation: "As a nation we have to ask when in God's name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?"

Brian Kemp failed Tuesday, as NBC News projected his favored candidate David Perdue is on track to lose the GOP primary by a wide margin. Trump has devoted much of his post-presidency to punishing Republicans who defied his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, and none more so than Kemp. But Perdue's campaign struggled to get off the ground and differentiate himself from Kemp on anything other than the 2020 election.
