BREAKING: Tom Steyer, the billionaire who put all his hopes on South Carolina, withdraws from race

After trailing the top two finishers in the South Carolina primary, Tom Steyer announced he was dropping out of the race Saturday night.

Steyer, a California activist billionaire who has largely been a nonfactor in the Democratic primary campaign, spent his own money heavily on the race, but was outpaced in the Democratic field by another late-entrant, former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, the billionaire media mogul.
