BETO Celebrates Bioenergy Year-Round! Today, October 20, is National Bioenergy Day, but at the U.S. Department of Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office, we celebrate bioenergy every day! To celebrate, we're providing a few of the ways BETO has advanced the U.S. bioeconomy this year. Sustainable Aviation Fuel Grand Challenge Roadmap Less than a month ago, an inter-agency collaboration between the U.S. departments of Energy, Agriculture, Transportation and their Federal Aviation Administration, and the Environmental Protection Agency, released the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Grand Challenge Roadmap, paving the path to decarbonize the aviation sector. The AlgaePrize Competition This year also marked the launch of the AlgaePrize, a student competition fostering workforce development by encouraging students to pursue innovative ideas for the development, design, and invention of technologies within the commercial algae value chain. Bioprose: Bioenergy R&D Blog BETO continues to provide interesting and informative articles on the Bioprose: Bioenergy R&D Blog, a key resource for scientific information on the nation's bioeconomy. The blog provide technical knowledge that shows how BETO sustainably develops biofuels, biopower, and bioproducts. Each blog post also communicates how researchers are enhancing U.S. energy security and competitive advantage. But it doesn't end there! Some of BETO's other accomplishments include: - Holding webinars and workshops about bioenergy topics, including sustainable marine fuels, community waste-to-energy programs, and STEM internships and fellowships.
- Awarding $61.2 million in funding to bioenergy projects nationwide, including waste-to-energy, scale up of bioenergy technologies, and algae technologies.
- Publishing technical reports and bioenergy factsheets on topics including biofuel and bioproduct innovation
- Reaching a major goal on the Minimum Fuel Selling Price of drop-in biofuels
