China announced early Friday that it will close the U.S. consulate in Chengdu, the latest move amid rising diplomatic tension between the nations. The U.S. State Department ordered the closure of China's Houston consulate on Wednesday after officials said the consulate has long been used by the Chinese government to steal medical research and to try to infiltrate the oil industry. China called the U.S. decision a "unilateral provocation," claiming that the move breached international law."The current situation in China-U.S. relations is not what China desires to see, and the U.S. is responsible for all this," the Foreign Affairs Ministry said. |
