The U. S. Attorney's Office is currently accepting applications from experienced attorneys who have a strong civil litigation background for the position of Assistant United States Attorney, with a primary focus on Affirmative Civil Enforcement. Attorneys doing this work are responsible for the investigation and prosecution of a variety of civil cases. These may include actions in which there have been false or fraudulent claims or false statements made to the United States, violations of the Controlled Substances Act, violations of federal civil rights or environmental laws, and other types of cases.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan is soliciting applications for a Criminal Division Assistant United States Attorney to lead the office's Financial Litigation Program. The Financial Litigation Program is responsible for the collection of restitution due to victims of federal crimes and the collection of court-imposed fines, special assessments, and civil debts owed to the United States. The AUSA leading the Financial Litigation Program will be responsible for working with Financial Litigation Program personnel to identify debtors' assets and to pursue collection actions under the Federal Debt Collection Procedures Act in U.S. District Court. The AUSA will oversee a team of Financial Litigation Program paralegals, lead the office's collection efforts, and handle a high volume caseload. The AUSA will interface and coordinate with federal agents, other Criminal and Civil Division AUSAs, and the office's Asset Forfeiture Unit to maximize and leverage collection opportunities. The AUSA will pursue civil discovery in aid of collection efforts.
