Commerce releases Defense Community Compatibility Report

The 2019 Legislature created the Defense Community Compatibility Account (DCCA) to be administered by the Department of Commerce. This program is the first statewide framework for evaluating and prioritizing projects that enhance the economy, environment and quality of life opportunities for local communities affected by the presence of military installations. Funding determinations are to be made by the Legislature.

Applications were accepted for projects with focus on: property acquisition to eliminate existing incompatible uses, assistance in the recovery and protection of endangered species, availability of affordable housing, retrofitting existing uses to increase compatibility, diversifying the local economy to reduce economic dependence, replacing jobs lost due to a reduction in military presence, and improving or enhancing the local economy, environment, or quality of life impacted by the presence of military activities.

The report highlights seven projects ranked and evaluated during the 2019 project solicitation phase to support necessary infrastructure and compatible land use projects near military installations in the state. The report also includes programmatic next steps and recommendations for the successful administration of Defense Community Compatibility Account.

A copy of the report and program updates can be found on the DCCA program webpage.
